A flash of buff and blue, a tail like two trailing ribbons, and a call that cuts through the stillness of the rainforest—the buff-breasted paradise kingfisher is one of North Queensland’s most magical visitors. I spotted one in the Daintree, perched in the filtered light, and felt completely enchanted. Their bright plumage and elegant shape make them feel like something out of a dream.

This painting is my tribute to that moment, created in gentle layers of watercolor to reflect both the bird’s brilliant colours and its quiet rainforest home.
