With his electric-blue feathers and cheeky charm, the splendid fairy-wren is one of Australia’s most beloved little birds. I never tire of spotting them darting through the undergrowth or perched proudly with their tail cocked just so. Painted in delicate layers of watercolor, I paid special attention to the soft blues, deep indigos, and the expressive posture that gives these birds their charm.
